Improved Living Conditions can Lower the Women Health Issues
Posted on 1 November 2011

Low income women that have moved with their children from high poverty towards low poverty areas experienced health improvements particularly reduction in diabetes and weight loss. There are MTO programs in which the families participate in lottery and on the results, families are given financial support for moving into better living areas.

During 2008-2010, MTO programs are conducted to provide the counseling and blood samples were also collected to know the ratio of diabetes in them. The ratio of obesity and diabetes in women that have moved to the better places is one-fifth less than the group of women that didn't move. 17% of women experiencing obesity were at having a body mass index of above 40 and 20% were suffering from diabetes.

This is an interesting finding contributed towards the relationship among the diseases and the living conditions. Obesity and diabetes are the common prevailing problems and both of them are treatable. Prevention is possible through the behavioral change which is difficult to maintain for a longer period of time.

According to this study, a place where women live with her children might determine the risk of developing serious and life shortening diseases like diabetes and obesity. Giving an opportunity to move towards the better areas might help to avoid such diseases. The communities that contribute towards extreme obesity and diabetes makes the situation worsen.
These studies highlighted the different aspects of social and physical environment, reducing the risk of diabetes and obesity. A greater access to grocery stores and increased physical activity reduces stress and subsequently the psychological stress.
Better living conditions improve the quality of life and lower the health expenditures. It is a known fact that changing lifestyles help to make the treatment of these diseases possible. Half of them including the fatal heart diseases are prevented through nutritional diet and exercises.

Women health issues are thus treatable and the controlling factor is of the changing surrounding that can improve the situation. Studies are still carried out to know the impact of environment on improved health conditions.
